Odd Arts is continuously evolving – ensuring our staff and participants remain engaged, empowered and inspired.
Here we began our research and practice working with theatre practitioner and politician Augusto Boal in the prisons and favelas of Brazil. We developed our own theatre projects in the prisons in Peru before bringing our work back to the UK.
We developed a range of innovative programmes that tackle current and challenging social issues. We forged long term partnerships with the Police, prisons, schools and youth centres. We became an Arts Award centre of excellence.
To reflect the diversity of our work and celebrate our achievements we rebranded as Odd Arts and continued our high quality creative programmes.
Odd Arts took part in a US Embassy Exchange to Boston on Countering Violent Extremism and we became specialists in delivery around radicalisation. In 2018 two academic papers were published on Odd Arts and our Director joined the National Arts Alliance steering group.
Our organisation grew in numbers, creative outputs & reach (working with around 30,000 people per year). We now have long-term community led programmes in action with increased commitments to anti-racism, wellbeing & CPD. We moved to Moss Side where we collaborate with community organisations to offer bespoke, trauma informed programmes.
